At Lightyear, we strongly believe in real-world tests to validate our assumptions. That’s why we designed Lightyear Lite. It is a small device that measures and shows the amount of solar energy, real-time. Placed on your roof it shows the power generating potential of your own car!
Solar kilometres all Lites together have gathered this month:
WHAT IS MY DAILY RANGE IN THE NETHERLANDS?
Good thing to know is that the Lightyear car will have a battery that is charged by the sun. You can use this energy anytime you want. A question we often get is how much kilometres someone can drive each day, using the sun. Since the weather changes, each day will have different results. Actually, the answer is: the amount of solar energy stored in the battery depends on the weather conditions. The best way to find out how much you can drive on solar energy is by doing your own research. Turn your car into a living lab. Place Lightyear Lite on your roof and start driving. The Lightyear Lite app shows you the number of kilometres your car could have driven on the sun if it was a solar car. We are pretty excited about Lightyear Lite and hopefully so are you! Don’t wait: pre-order now, join the community and experience the power of energy generated by the sun.
How Does it work?
We developed a small device and a mobile app.

One year of data is included with Lightyear Lite. After one year you can renew you subscription for €15 per year.
The solar cell measures the power of the sun. At the same time it charges a small internal battery.
A battery provides energy to bridge 7 days without sun.
Acceleration data is important for our algorithm to calculate how much energy your virtual solar car uses.
Distance & Trips
GPS is used to measure the distance travelled. For business users the trip overview can be exported for you administration.
We care about your privacy and security. We use industry standards to protect your data. All requests are send over an secured SSL connection. Of course, you can disable GPS locations if you do not feel confident to share these details.
